Mind the Gap — Then Stay a While
A busy city that rewards you for slowing down.
London is a city that can be rushed — or savoured. Skip the sprint between landmarks and give yourself a long weekend to live like a local: wandering markets, popping into tiny bookshops and finding your favourite corner pub.
A Long Weekend
Friday: settle in with an evening walk along the South Bank as the city lights up. Saturday: breakfast at a market, an afternoon in a free museum, and dinner somewhere cosy. Sunday: a slow stroll through a park, a proper roast, and one last look at the skyline from somewhere high.
How Much There Is to See (and How Many Steps That Is)
Here's the honest truth: you cannot see London in a weekend, and that's the whole charm. There are more than two hundred museums and galleries, forty-odd markets, a dozen parks worth an entire afternoon, and about as many neighborhoods as you have days — so choose two or three and let the rest wait for your next trip.
All of which adds up to steps. Plan on 18,000 to 25,000 a day, more if the river is your route home, because the best bits are always a short walk apart and you'll keep wandering one street further than you meant to. By Sunday evening your feet will have opinions. Bring the shoes you actually trust, build a sit-down lunch into every day, and take the Tube when the distance stops looking silly.
Where to Stay
Choose a neighbourhood, not just a hotel. Leafy streets, independent cafés and a short walk to the Tube make every day feel easier — and a little more like home.
